Person Centered Therapy

Person Centered Therapy

Person Centered Therapy is a non-directive approach to talk therapy. The focus of therapy is on the person, not the problem. The goal is to allow the client to take charge of sessions and develop greater independence and confidence.

By reflecting (or restating what is said, asking evocative questions, and supporting the individual in a non-judgmental way, the therapist guides the client allowing them to be able to resolve conflict, gain understanding and congruence of their own values, and to interpret thoughts and feelings.

Goals of Client Centered Counseling -

Becoming fully functional: the counselor understands that each individual is unique and has unique resources, abilities, and perceptions. This must all be taken into consideration for an individual to fully heal.

Increase self-esteem and confidence.

Decrease feelings of depression, anxiety, panic, etc.

Ability to express feelings and improve relationships

Lessen guilt over past mistakes
